My Philosophy

You should hire a photographer that feels like a friend.

I think it must be the weirdest feeling in the world to have a stranger show up on your wedding day that you've never met before and shove a camera in your face for 10 hours. That's why a huge part of my process is making sure that we hop on Facetime calls and meet in person before your wedding! By the time we get to your wedding day- I hope that I feel more like a friend than a vendor.

That's also a really big reason that I always recommend engagement sessions! You get a chance to meet me, get in front of my lens, and figure out what this is all about. So many of my engagement sessions have turned into hangouts, and I absolutely love that.

It's a privilege and a responsibility to get to do this and I don't take that lightly. At the end of the day- I'm here for you. I do this because I absolutely love it and one of my favourite parts of my job is getting to watch your love story unfold. Clients often become friends, and when my wedding couples move houses, have kids, or get new promotions at work... I'm right there cheering you on when I see those life updates flash across my feed!

So whoever you are reading this, I can't wait to meet you and get to know you, and tell your story with my camera! Here's to new friends!

Much love,

Maiya

What the Process Looks Like...

Like what you see? Send me a message!

The most important parts of booking your photographer are liking their style and who they are as people. Each of us has a unique way of capturing a day and processing your images- so take a look through my page, and if my style resonates with you, I would love to hear from you!

Shoot me an email and I'll respond with my Wedding Guide that has all the details about me, my packages, and some FAQ's that might answer any questions you might have!

Let's get face-to-face for coffee (or pie!)

Once you've thought about hiring me and getting this show on the road- send me a message and let's go grab coffee! (Fun fact, I don't drink coffee, but I know a GREAT pie place!) or we can schedule a FaceTime call! We'll go over my photography, your wedding, and any questions that you might have!

I'm a big believer in meeting people face to face because this is a big investment for you and I want you to feel 1000% good about it!

To save your date: contract & deposit

Once you've decided to move forward, all that's left is to officially get onto my calendar!

I work on a first come, first serve basis for dates, and I am all yours for your date as soon as you send me your signed contract and 25% non-refundable deposit!

The remaining 75% of your payment is due 30 days before your wedding!

You've officially booked a wedding photographer!

And then you've officially booked a photographer! Now the dreaming and the planning begins!

We'll plan a date for your engagement session, book times to go for coffee and chat about your wedding, and I'll be there every step of the way to help with any timeline issues, outfit decisions, or anything else you need a hand with!

A Place for Everyone

I'm proud to make my business a safe space for everybody. I welcome the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities in front of my lens and I'm honoured to tell all stories 🌈❤️

Got questions? I've got answers!

We're super awkward in front of the camera and don't know what to do

I swear everyone says this! My biggest piece of advice is to trust that I have you. I am here to guide you through everything and I promise, it'll be more fun than you think it'll be! We will play music, dance around, and I promise that I've got your back the entire time.

What if it rains?

We live in Vancouver so that’s always a possibility! I am ready to shoot your day, no matter how you want to proceed! If you want to go run around in the rain and embrace the wild, and crazy, then I’ll be right there beside you with a handful of clear umbrellas! If you want to figure out a backup plan and move this party inside, we can do that too! You know what they say, rain is a sign of good luck on a wedding day! My best advice is to roll with the flow and enjoy your wedding day with all your heart

What gear do you shoot with?

I shoot with a Sony A7iv and a Sony A7iii. I'm forever a prime lens lover, so I'm usually rocking my 35mm 1.4 and 85mm 1.8

Do you have second shooters? Why are they so great?

I include a second shooter in all of my Wedding packages because of how invaluable they are! Second shooters provide another unique perspective of your day and ensure that we can get all the shots to tell your story. They can help to capture the getting ready process of the other spouse, provide multiple angles of your ceremony, and assist in wrangling your family for formal portraits!

When I’m hiring second shooters- I am extremely picky! I only work with photographers that I trust, and that are in the wedding business themselves! So rest assured, I hire some pretty awesome humans :)

Can we have our raw images?

I do not deliver any raw images. A huge part of my photography process is the culling and editing! Similar to how a baker would not sell raw dough, photographers do not give out raw images. We need to give them some love, and bake them before we deliver them to you!

Do you backup our photos?

I absolutely do! Everything I shoot at weddings is automatically stored on 2 separate memory cards. When I get home, your images are copied to two separate hard drives, and the originals are always kept on the memory cards until your full gallery has been delivered.

So basically, I have backups upon backups to make sure I never lose your images!
