A West Coast Inspired Engagement Session at Buntzen Lake

When Megan and Travis reached out to me, they told me that they wanted to create an engagement session that celebrated their time in British Columbia and the aspect of the West Coast that they loved. We went out to Buntzen Lake in Port Moody, which is a spot that they frequent, and started in the mossy forests that lead up to the park. We wandered around fern-filled paths, the moss dripping from the trees, and the light came pouring in through the trees in the most incredible way.

We made our way towards the lake, taking in the shimmering water, the layers of mountains in the background, and the way that the immense landscape can make you feel so very small. Megan and Travis explored, danced, and wandered all around the beach, the rocks, and the lake.

It was such an incredible afternoon and one that I won't forget for a long time.

Having a session at Buntzen Lake

An absolutely incredible spot to do engagement photos, Buntzen Lake in Port Moody is a stunning mix of forests, mountain views, and the most gorgeous lake you've ever seen.

The logistics of it can get tricky! I would always reccomend planning your session, wedding, or elopement there in the off-season or shoulder season (October- May). Having your session or wedding in the Fall, Winter, or Spring allows you to explore the park without the bustling crowds in bathing suits and the paddle boarders, fishers, and kayakers that fill the lake. Lookout spots are more accessible and the trails are far less crowded.

From May 15th-Sept 1st, there is a mandatory, free parking pass that you need to reserve to get parking in the park (otherwise it's a 2km walk into the park from the gate entrance).

I grew up in Port Moody and was at Buntzen Lake almost every week. It holds an incredibly special place in my heart and I'm always so happy to share it with people so they can see what makes it so special as well.
